The Knockabout has been reviewed in RC Report magazine’s October 2007 issue ( www.rcreport.ws ) and in Fly RC magazine’s November 2007 issue ( www.flyrc.com ).  Here are some of the things they had to say about it.

The Knockabout 46 was easy to assemble and its appearance is pleasing.  Its performance, however, is nothing short of phenomenal!  Some of its flight characteristics, for such a large, (almost) flat-bottom wing, are simply unbelievable.  In a few words, the P.A.M. Knockabout now ranks very high on my list of the best flying models I’ve ever had the pleasure to pilot!

“This is a rock solid flyer.  After a few circles I gave the transmitter to (my aerobatic test pilot.) I suggested that he put the Knockabout through a few maneuvers, and he obliged me by immediately rolling it inverted and pushing it into an outside loop.  He again rolled inverted as he coasted over the top and then he popped into a spin before recovering for a few more rolls and loops.  Then he stopped it in dead in the air.  It hovered for a moment before it’s nose dropped.  He picked up a little speed and then leveled off.  I could tell by his smile that he thoroughly enjoyed flying the Knockabout.  It’s a very predictable aerobatic airplane.”

“Smooth. Precise. Crisp. Honest. Predictable. Fun. Great.  Whoever designed this thing really did their homework.  They really knew what they were doing.”

Wayne Gladden, RC Report Magazine, October 2007

“Now for the other side of the coin: how is the Knockabout as a trainer?  The plane is very docile when properly trimmed.  It will fly straight and level indefinitely until it runs out of fuel.  Overall, (my) students didn’t have any trouble keeping the Knockabout out of trouble.  Most of the time, I was able to talk them through recovery maneuvers.  When I did have to recover the plane, it was very responsive to my inputs and I immediately restored it to level flight.”

There’s just no way around it, the PAM Knockabout is an unusually wonderful design!  I love it!

Gordon Banks, RC Report Magazine, October 2007

“The Knockabout is, as advertised: “a wolf in sheep’s clothing”.  It can be a very smooth, stable trainer, and it can also be wild and crazy in the air.  This plane will be going to the field with me (a lot).”
