Gordon Banks, of RC Report Magazine, converted the Knockabout to electric power, using an E-flight Power 46 motor, Castle Creations 60 amp ESC, APC 12x6E propeller and a Thunder Power 4S 3850 mAh LiPo battery. He used standoffs to mount the motor and built a light ply battery box, which he glued into the Knockabouts tank compartment.  He glued the Velcro that comes with the Knockabout over the open end of the box to hold the battery in place.

Gordon ran the battery and ESC plugs into the Knockabout’s muffler cutout so that he could connect and disconnect the battery without taking the wing off.  His only other change was to cut the covering from over the rear lightening hole in the bottom of the fuselage to let the cooling air out.

The October 2007 issue of RC Report Magazine has his description of the conversion (simple and straightforward) and review of the performance (excellent) of the “Knockabout – E”.  Gordon’s concluding comments about the electric conversion were:  “The results are very rewarding, and both versions of the Pacific Aeromodel Knockabout 46 are a blast to fly!
